Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi observed the facilities related to security in Tokyo.
Prime Minister Koizumi first visited the Fuchu Police Station and observed its detention room after receiving details in the conference room. Next, Prime Minister Koizumi visited the Fuchu Prison where he learned about the various facilities instituted for the correction of inmates. Prime Minister Koizumi is the first among all the prime ministers in history to visit and observe a prison. Prime Minister Koizumi then visited the Tokyo Customs Container Examination Center in Koto Ward and observed how the inspection of large containers is carried out by using x-rays. The inspection time has been reduced drastically through the introduction of these Large Container X-Ray Inspection Systems. At his last stop, the Immigration Bureau of Japan in Minato Ward, Prime Minister Koizumi observed the inspection station for resident eligibility and detainment center of foreigners. After concluding his observations, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Feasible approaches must be promoted by taking in opinions raised at the actual scenes while considering the actions and budgetary measures necessary for the revival of Japan as a safer nation." |
